How we started

Fun Day at the pond |
The
Ribble M.B.C. was formed in October 1997 by Barry Taylor and Tony Kent, who felt that Preston, which once had an active port,
should have a Model Boat Club to maintain this long maritime tradition.
Originally, sailing took place on the Serpentine Lake in Moor Park
Preston, but following problems with weed and opposition from a local councillor and parking problems, it was soon obvious
that this was not a satisfactory venue. Following a chance invitation to attend an Open Day, by the Amateur Radio Society,
based at St Mary's Priory Club, on Broadfield Drive, Leyland, the 'new location' presented itself, possibly by
'Divine Providence', since the Priory grounds have their own lake and Father Jonathan kindly gave permission for us
to use the lake.
